*NSHI recognizes the Pennsylvania definition for a national home inspectors association as follows: (1) operated on a not-for-profit basis and not as a franchise; (2) has members in more than ten states; (3) requires 100 inspections to become a full member; (4) requires an accredited entrance examination; (5) requires members comply with a code of conduct; and (6) requires continuing education for ongoing membership.

For inspectors in Pennsylvania, the NSHI designation
full member refers to members who have performed or participated in at least 100 inspections. NSHI cannot certify inspection reports or guarantee that any member is compliant with the Pennsylvania Act. NSHI members have the responsibility of keeping track of their own inspection experience and membership status. The PA Act 114 is self-enforcing. There is no agency in Pennsylvania that has the legal authority to determine or certify an inspector's compliance status. NSHI provides members with a compliance document to present to clients or realtors to verify self-compliance with PA Act 114. Complaints from consumers should be directed to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection (717) 787-7109.
